Had this happen to me in a flight to Canadia. Used the 3 seats to sleep quite comfy.

I haven’t seen this happen in years. I swear the airlines practically refuse to fly without every seat filled these days. I see open seats across from you in that shot, too, which just never happens.
I miss the good old days when they flew without every seat filled.

For Thanksgiving, I flew four segments totaling around 30 hours (two on United and two on TAP), and never had anyone in the seat next to to me. Two of those had no one in my row (granted one of those was a two seat row). I find this is often the case when I fly
Lesson: Look for extremely cheap fares. They are extremely cheap because the plane is nowhere close to full.
The real problem is armrests that don’t fold up all the way, and thus make it uncomfortable to take advantage of all that room.

These ones did. I folded up the armrest, and dropped the center tray table along with mine, and now I had a big seat with a wide desk. Was nice. ^_^

I haven’t really seen cheap tickets in years, either. Part of this is because I live near what I consider a second-tier airport that has no competition for over 2 hours of driving in any direction.
Seriously, though, airlines that are making crazy money these days have implemented algorithms to maximize the number of passengers on every flight.
